New Data System for Engineering and Manufacturing
Howell, MI - July 27, 2010 Michigan software company Datura LLC announces today the release of BeanCounter Desktop v1.1, a data storage tool that turns a standard relational database into a mixed data storage system. Engineers and manufacturers finally have a way to combine the data from multiple sources, organize it in projects, libraries and other groupings, search it with SQL, and all without designing any tables. Relational databases will now have the capability and flexibility of handling real-world technical data in a seamless relational manner.
BeanCounter makes it easier to combine all of the information together in one place, allowing for better data mining and project management. Engineers, architects, technicians, manufacturers, and researchers need to manage and share data from a broad spectrum of data formats: legacy data from old applications, material libraries, equipment libraries, technical specifications, data captured from sensors, site-collected data, drawings, geographical information, project criteria, and analysis results.
“Up until now, engineering and other technical disciplines had to choose between the flexibility of XML and the capability of a relational database”, said Datura president Dean Keith. “Relational databases are the only data systems that let many people work together with cross-platform tools in a secure, reliable, and scalable manner. Despite the benefits, developers have been forced to use XML and object databases because of the difficulty of storing object data in relational databases. We have solved this problem.”
BeanCounter uses an Equal Format system design of relational tables and procedures called Legume to store data into Microsoft SQL Server (2005 or later). The Legume system breaks the data into pieces with unique identifiers and stores the pieces in a pre-designed set of relational tables. Using SQL or BeanCounter, data can be searched by value, identifier, or usage. Legume will be available for other server vendors in the near future.
Other benefits include incremental, non-destructive storage that tracks all changes and allows the retrieval of data as a snapshot from any point in time. Data can be exported to other users and imported without conflicts. BeanCounter comes with the tools necessary to import and export data from many formats, including spreadsheets, text files, relational databases, XML, and RDF. Additional file formats can be managed through plug-ins written by third party vendors or custom written by users.
The introductory price is $750 USD and the regular price of $1250 USD includes a year of updates.
